Hidden Gem – Mayfield Hall The Perfect Hotel for a Peaceful Break <3

Mayfield Hall

Where should I begin! My wife and I arrive on the day of the local village fete which was part of the 20th annual Well dressing event, because of these were met a lot of unexpected pedestrian traffic milling about in Hall Lane, the approach to Mayfield Hall (thankfully everyone survived the meeting unharmed!)

On arrival at Mayfield Hall we were please to discover that reserved parking had been set aside for us and the Hall owner Mike even allowed us  to check in 2 hours early too!

We are easily pleased but we thoroughly enjoyed the fete in the afternoon which (for us) consisted of sitting in the sun drinking tea and eating home made cake in the beautiful grounds of the hall. A real flavour of rural England!

We had an event (The Jaguar Drivers Club 2nd Annual Great Peaks Run – read about it here!) to attend the next morning which meant we would have to miss breakfast (served 8:00 to 10:00) to make it on time but Mike very kindly offered to prepare us a full cooked breakfast at 7:30 in the emorning which was way above and beyond the call of duty and was very much appreciated.

Breakfast is ordered the day before from a wide selection available and was without a shadow of a doubt the absolute best hotel breakfast we have ever been served anywhere! The Full english breakfast choice was freshly cooked, all local produce started off with cereals, fresh squeeze orange juice, grapefruit juide, fruit salad etc to start and delicious locally baked bread with home made preserves to finish off, all rounded off with a “Proper” pot of tea!

We had booked our hotel via Hotels.com which is where we nearly always book our breaks away – we managed to snag a “secret” offer from them which gave us 10% off which we almost double by booking via quidco which gave us 8% cashback on the booking and to sweeten the deal even further we get 2 stars on Hotel.com’s reward scheme where 10 stars = a free night away!

The room we stayed in was called “Dove” and was gorgeous with king size bed, luxury heavy cotton linen, ensuite with bath and also separate shower, flat screen TV, Kettle etc – nothing was missing! It was more like a small suite in layout with main door leading to a small corridor with bathroom to the right and bedroom straigh ahead through second door, the room was very well naturally lit with 2 huge windows and was completely silent at night. Utter bliss to sleep without passing traffic noise!

The grounds of Mayfield Hall are truly astounding and the facilities are so welcoming and the location is so perfect that we will definitely be back even though it is very rare for us to ever stay at the same hotel more than once!

There is a wealth of local places to eat and the market town of Ashbourne is just down the road.
