Wooden Gates Vs Automatic Roller Shutters

So Mrs Silver Surfer and myself have just relocated from the seaside in Lancashire to sunny South Yorkshire!

We’ve moved into a delightful little end terrace house with a pretty back garden, useful garage/workshop and driveway.

The one thing that made it hard work was that the drive was protected by huge, heavy wooden gates with drop bolts, padlock etc to secure it and as the drive is to the back of the house it meant if we were going out then Mrs silver had to bolt the gates from the inside after I had reversed the car out, go through the house, lock the doors and meet me round the front. Not exactly hard work but also not much fun in the rain or the dark!

Heavy Wooden Gates

So it seemed the best option would be to get a garage roller shutter installed between the gate posts so we started phoning around for quotes! Am i glad we shopped around! A local “specialist” quoted us £600 more than the eventual supplier we chose (found via ebay), I’ll link the the supplier we used below – obviously they are not national but the service they provided, the quality of the doors, the fitting and work carried out was truly unbeatable and just goes to show that with some careful shopping around you can save a fortune without compromising the end result!

Here are a few before and after photos to show the difference. The added security and level of convenience has been well worth the investment, one click of a button on the remote opens or closes the shutter, and they are guarenteed for 2 years too!
